The iconic property and longtime home of the late King of Pop has finally sold. From 1988 to 2005, Michael Jackson owned Neverland Ranch, which has since been renamed Sycamore Valley Ranch, its former name before Jackson purchased the property.
Jackson moved out of the 2,700-acre ranch following the infamous 2005 People vs. Jackson trial. Neverland Ranch's central role in the case has made it a difficult property to sell. Initially listed in 2015 for $100 million, the home sat on the market for more than five years and multiple drops in the asking price until it finally sold last month for $22 million.
Before being listed in 2015, the property was extensively renovated and most traces of Jackson had been removed, including the amusement park rides and zoo. Billionaire and former family friend of Jackson, Ron Burkle, purchased the property for what he has described as a "land banking opportunity."
The 12,000-square-foot main house, designed in French Normandy style, is a sight to behold. With massive rooms, the stunning formal living and dining spaces, multiple fireplaces and a chef's kitchen can be used for large functions. There are six bedrooms, one of which is a two-story master suite with a fireplace in the sitting room, two large baths and cedar walk-in closets.
Besides the main house, a four-bedroom guest house, a two-bedroom guest house, several barns, animal shelter facilities and a maintenance shop, Sycamore Valley Ranch's grounds contain a free-form swimming pool, a large covered barbecue area, a basketball court and a tennis court. There is also a 50-seat movie theater with a private balcony and stage, as well as a four-acre lake with a fountain.
