st paddyGrab your gold, put on your green, hope for luck and head to one of these ZIP codes to find a pub. In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, RealtyTrac® partnered with enterprise data and analytics company Acxiom® to uncover ZIP codes throughout the United States where a pub is just a leap away.

If you are heading out to a pub this St. Paddy’s day, RealtyTrac suggests you head to Austin, Texas, more particularly ZIP code 78701, where there are a total of 88 bars, which comes to one bar for every 67 people.   Not far behind is Springfield, Massachusetts (ZIP code 01103) with a bar for one out of every 122 people. Rounding out the top five is Pensacola, Florida (ZIP code 32502) with a bar for every one out of 148 people.

Now that we know where to find a bar it may be helpful to narrow down the type of neighborhoods using RealtyTrac, Census and HUD data to identify key real estate and neighborhood characteristics that may help you decide which neighborhood is the place for you. The interactive graph above will help you in this decision, however we created a Top 5 for each category.

Top 5 ZIP codes for Rental Affordability
ZIP code 15222 (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) tops the list with best rental affordability at 28.6 percent, followed by ZIP 32502 (Pensacola, Florida) at 29.0 percent, ZIP 70130 (New Orleans, Louisiana) at 30.7 percent, ZIP 20036 (Washington, D.C.) 32.4 percent and then ZIP 19102 (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) rounding out the top 5 at 32.6 percent.

Top 5 ZIP codes for Home Payment Affordability
ZIP code 32502 (Pensacola, Florida) at 27.2 percent tops the list with best home payment affordability, followed by ZIP 75226 (Dallas, Texas) at 33.4 percent, ZIP 01103 (Springfield, Massachusetts) at 34.2 percent, ZIP 48226 (Detroit, Michigan) at 37.0 percent and then ZIP 20036 (Washington, D.C.) rounding out the top 5 at 37.6 percent. After reviewing the above factors, it is safe to say that our nation’s capital is displayed proudly, making ZIP code 20036 (Washington D.C.) the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Or in this case the bar at the end of the rainbow. However, if you want to take this one step further (no pun intended) a few other components RealtyTrac looked at was the percent of people who walk to work, which can loosely be transformed to best places to conduct a pub crawl.

Lastly, while we understand many of these ZIP codes are in close proximity to colleges, we wanted to take a quick look at which ZIPS had the highest percentage of people between the ages of 21-35, better known as millennials.
