If you’re creating your own custom dream home, you don’t want to waste the opportunity to make something amazing. With a custom build, your imagination (and the laws of physics) are your only real limits. This can allow for some truly fantastic additions that you won’t find in any other home, carrying an element of fun, as well.

If you’re looking for some unique and exciting ideas for your home design, consider these four tips to get you started:
Secret Doors
Secret doors can lead to hidden rooms in your home. You may wish to have secret doors and rooms to hide precious belongings if thieves ever break into your house. They can also lead to a hidden study, a secret game room, or even just make the trip to your master bedroom that much more adventurous. Doors can be made to resemble shelves, bookcases, fireplaces or anything else that can sit against a wall.
Doors that aren’t easy to spot by an untrained eye can also be incorporated into stone walls and mirrors. Whether you’re a fan of mysteries and secret doors, or you're simply looking for a little extra privacy, secret doors are a unique and surprisingly easy addition to any custom home.
Japanese Space-Saving Solutions
Some Japanese-style homes are fitted with compartments, doors and other clever additions that are intended to help with saving space. Shoji are traditional Japanese-style sliding doors that consist of wooden lattice panels covered in translucent paper, which can make your home seem bigger by allowing more natural sunlight to illuminate your setting. Storage racks can be placed above sinks, inside pantries and around other tight areas to house supplies and save space.
Some Japanese designs include storage drawers under every step on a staircase. Many modern designs allow for couches, chairs and even desks to be pulled right out of the wall like a pop-up book. This allows you to save space by using otherwise space-consuming items when needed.
Varied Floor Levels
A house construction company can do a lot more than make your basic rooms and storage compartments. You can have raised or lowered platforms in your floor plan, allowing for a pit-style game or TV space, or even have your bed situated up above the rest of the bedroom to make the space feel more open. You can also have your bed set into the floor to be covered with a panel when not in use. Think beyond two dimensions in your home design and consider the possibilities for varied floor levels.
Climbing Wall
You can fit in some exercise while having fun in the comfort of your home by installing a climbing wall. A climbing wall will also be beneficial if you have kids, as it'll allow for an exciting outlet for their energy. Climbing walls can be installed inside a garage or basement, or along an exterior wall of your house. If you want to have padded flooring beneath it, you’ll want to have the wall installed indoors. If you (or your kids) are into high adventure and climbing, you can outfit the climbing wall room with rope ladders, jungle gyms and even rope swings.
When you're having your own custom home built, you have a golden opportunity to explore the benefits of modern architecture. There’s no need to be conventional if you plan to keep your home for a long time. Not only will these additions add quality to your life, but they may add value to your home. Nothing will make your house stand out on the market (should you want to sell later) like unique and exciting features found nowhere else. Consider your possibilities, budget and dreams so you can create the perfect home for you and your family.
