Not every U.S. town or city is real estate-career friendly. For industry professionals, location can be the difference between plentiful sales and business opportunities and a more challenging market that is difficult to maneuver.
So, where's a real estate agent's dream work location? According to a new report by WalletHub, which compared over 170 U.S. cities using 18 "healthy real estate environment" indicators, California is the place to be—if you're in the right city, that is. Within the top 10, California made the list eight times, claiming the top spot with San Francisco, which was closely followed by Seattle, Wash.
The top 20 best places to be a real estate agent are:

- Fremont, Calif.
- Oakland, Calif.
- New York, N.Y.
- Santa Rosa, Calif.
- Denver, Colo.
- Nashville, Tenn.
- Vancouver, Wash.
- Irvine, Calif.
- Portland, Ore.
- Salem, Ore.
- Charlotte, N.C.
- Boston, Mass.
- Los Angeles, Calif.
- Tempe, Ariz.
- Fargo, N.D.
- Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
- Pearl City, Hawaii
The least attractive for real estate employment was Tacoma, Wash., with Salem, Ore., ranking as the most attractive. The lowest median home price went to Detroit, Mich., and lowest home turnover rate to Las Vegas, Nev. For the overall housing market health index, Newport News, Va., ranked at the bottom, and Laredo, Texas, claimed the top spot. Of course, these locations rank differently according to several factors, so agents will need to decide which category is most important to their business.
