For the real estate professionals who connected on RISMedia's most recent webinar, technology is king. The modern agent is looking for a brokerage that can provide the systems and support that foster growth and success.
During RISMedia's webinar—"Innovative Recruiting Strategies to Attract the Modern Agent"—panelists Mark Shepherd, principal broker of the Shepherd Real Estate Group; Betsy Cameron, VP of Business Initiatives for the Ebby Halliday Companies; and Ron Howard, top-producing team leader, senior coach and bestselling author of "Create Demand and Stop Chasing Business," discussed how tech is the value proposition that's going to help brokers stand out in a crowded industry.
The webinar was moderated by Terri Murphy of Workman Success Systems and sponsored by Broker Solutions.
"As the consumer continues to advance their demands, one of the things that we have going for us is that we want to give the ultimate service and these [panelists] know how to do that," said Murphy.
Here are some the specific strategies that the panelists discussed that you can use to bolster your recruiting efforts and grow your agent relationships:
Training
What good does cutting edge real estate technology do if your agents aren’t well-versed in how to use it? One of the most critical strategies you need as a broker is agent training, specifically training for how your agents can use new tech that you intend to implement.
"The reason we created our training program is because, for newer agents in their first year, we would like to see them closing between 4-5 transactions,” said Cameron.
She also mentioned that you, as an agent, need to make sure that the training is effective. If you’re not in regular contact with your agents, they may be following your training but not getting the most out of it.
"When researching what recruits really want, we decided to launch the Ebby Edge, which is a real estate school,” added Cameron.
Team Leader Mindset
Real estate teams are the future of real estate. In past decades, a very ambitious, successful agent could start a brokerage if they wanted to. Today, the more common path for highly-driven agents leads them to the position of team leader.
"So many people get into the broker mentality, but you need to be stealing from the team leader playbook. Take time to educate the public,” said Howard.
Additionally, Howard touched on the importance of offering a la carte tech services as a broker. Many modern agents will like having options and will enjoy being able to pick and choose different offerings.
"As a broker, you should want to bring in modern agents, because modern agents will eventually start teams. To facilitate that, you should be offering a la carte services,” added Howard.
